Lot 1202
1803. Small Reverse Stars. BD-3, Rarity 4. PCGS graded MS-63. Rich golden toning. Only 15,017 struck, with about 150 to 200 examples estimated to have survived for this variety according to PCGS Pop Report. This is one of the absolute finest for the date and vareity, with none seen finer for the BD-3 isssue. The fields and devices are of top quality, clean and attractive for the grade assigned. These early $10 gold pieces are large and prone to bagmarks, hence the Choice level is rarely encountered today. This condition rarity represents a fantastic opportunity for the astute numismatist to acquire an amazing coin. Pop 1; tied for the finest graded at both services for the variety. Estimate Value $55,000 - UP

1804. Crosslet 4. PCGS graded MS-61. Lovely rich golden toning. Semi reflective fields. This one has great color and reflective surfaces. There are some shallow adjustment marks down Liberty's face and hair, common to this particular issue. Futthermore there is a short scratch in the left obverse field which is mentioned for pedigree tracing purposes. 1804 is the final year of issue for the $10 eagle until 1838, when the new screw press was developed, a press which was large enough to coin this prodigius gold coin with more precision than the previous screw press used on this coin. Mintages in 1804 were tiny, and survivor rates were tiny. Here is one of the best to come down to us today. Only 3,757 struck, with about 80 to 100 examples estimated to have survived according to PCGS Pop Report. Pop 8; 3 finer, 1 in 62, 1 in 63+, 1 in 64. (PCGS # 8566) Estimate Value $75,000 - UP

1846. PCGS graded AU-55. Untoned. Luster adhering to the devices. This is a low mintage date and one which is seldom seen this well preserved. The surfaces are average, with scattered light circulating marks expected for the grade, but still eye appealing and attractive overall. Only 20,095 struck. Pop 7; 5 finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 8594) Estimate Value $5,000 - UP

1855. PCGS graded MS-61. Boldly struck, lustrous and lightly toned. This one has the desirable slanted 55 that Longacre imparted to most of the coins of 1855. This was a most artistic advance, first tested in 1854, where some of the 5s were slanted. Clean surfaces and a handsome example of this Philadelphia issue. Pop 16; 11 finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 8616) Estimate Value $4,000 - UP

1865-S, 865 over inverted 186. NGC graded AU-55. CAC. Lightly toned on both sides. Only 16,700 struck, but this is one of approximately 75 to 100 to survive from this famous blundered obverse die. The date punch was first entered upside down, then corrected. Only a few such date blunders exist, especiallly in the gold coin series and this is one of the most famous and dramatic. Handsome surfaces and attractive for the numismatic specialist. Pop 11; 10 finer, 8 in 58, 1 in 60, 1 in 62. (PCGS # 8643) Estimate Value $18,000 - UP

1898. PCGS graded Proof 64+ Deep Cameo. CAC. Boldly struck with a hint of gold tone. A coin that should be graded Proof-65 or finer. Only 67 struck, with about 40 to 50 examples estimated to have survived by PCGS Pop Report. This is one of the most desirable with the Deep Cameo contrast between the fields and boldly frosted devices. An exceptional opportunity to buy a fresh, original Proof coin that is seldom available today, as such exceptional coins are rarely seen. Deep Cameo coins represent no more than two dozen or less of this issue. A rare opportunity for the specialist. Pop 1; 8 finer at PCGS for PRDC. Just graded for the first time (PCGS # 98838) Estimate Value $30,000 - UP

1911-D. PCGS graded MS-64. Nice golden toning. This is the lowest mintage date of the entire series, and any 1911-D is a prized item today. Here is one of the finer examples known, with fantastic surfaces and abudant eye appeal. The obverse would likely grade gem on its own, while the reverse has just a couple of minor old bagmarks that limit its upper end grade. One is located below the D of UNITED, but this is minor overall. Here is a fantastic example of this condition rarity, and one that is worthy of the most advanced collection. A numismatic treasure! Only 30,100 struck. Pop 19; 3 finer in 65. (PCGS # 8869) Estimate Value $60,000 - UP
